VISION

The world is at the 3rd electricity-market revolution where batteries and Distributed Energy Resources (DER) are on the rise. Liberalization and unbundling of the long lasting electricity market was, and in some countries still is, the first move in driving efficiency and reforming the electricity market. The 2nd revolution was the introduction of affordable renewable sources of energy, and today we’re experiencing the 3rd revolution presented by the introduction of flexible assets - mainly batteries - and local sources of generating electricity, which allows the entire electricity market to become even more efficient and to increase the level and  capacity of integrating renewable sources into the mix.

The 3rd - today's - revolution is characterized and driven by technology, as opposed to policy shift predominant the previous two revolutions, and manifested in the ability of entrepreneurs and consumers – taking advantage of the new and affordable technology – to actively participate in the energy makers, not only as consumers but also as producers and traders.

The new technology, facilitating the change, is mainly composed of local production units, like solar panels, small gas turbines, and various storage assets, such as electric vehicles and batteries. Storage assets are the joker as they allow to shift energy over time (flexibility) thus introducing merits across the board starting from new business models through federal benefits (e.g., avoid grid reinforcement investments, resiliency, etc.).

The change is also defined by the speed it takes place, mainly is such a heavy-duty, legacy and regulated industry, as technology is maturing and introducing into the markets extremely fast.

Today we’re at the top of the solar panels and wind sources sine-wave and those who cultivated and invested several years ago are reaping the benefits. The next wave will be the smart orchestration of DER and storage. EVs are already penetrating the markets at scale, and soon enough batteries will become commodities.

Whoever manages, optimizes and especially trades these assets arrays will rule.

Managing, Optimizing and Trading of Storage and DERs assets is the name of the game.
